Steam vs. Dry Cleaning

Which Carpet Cleaning Method Is Right for Your Home?

Most people searching for a carpet cleaner get stuck on one question: steam cleaning or dry cleaning? The honest answer is that each has a job it does best. We’ll recommend the method that fits your carpet and your situation, not the one that’s quickest for us.

Hot Water Extraction (Steam Cleaning)

Despite the name, “steam cleaning” uses hot water, not steam. Hot water and cleaning solution are sprayed deep into the carpet and immediately pulled back out with powerful suction, taking embedded dirt, allergens and residue with them. It’s the deepest clean available for carpet, and the best choice for heavily soiled traffic lanes, homes with allergies, and pet urine and odor problems that reach below the surface.

Low-Moisture Cleaning (“Dry” Cleaning)

Low-moisture cleaning uses a small amount of solution that’s worked into the carpet fibers, where it traps dirt so it can be vacuumed away. The carpet is often dry within an hour or two, which makes it a good fit for offices and shops that can’t wait, regular maintenance between deep cleans, and some delicate or natural-fiber rugs that shouldn’t get wet. It’s less effective on heavy soil and deep pet contamination.

Will Cleaning Affect Your Carpet Warranty?

Many carpet warranties require professional cleaning at regular intervals, often every 12 to 24 months depending on the brand, and many specify hot water extraction. If your carpet is still under warranty, check the cleaning terms and keep your invoice after every professional cleaning, since it’s your proof if you ever need to make a claim. Not sure what your warranty requires? Tell us the brand when you call, and we’ll help you check.
